Skiing sport not only brings people the experience of speed and passion, it also witnesses the evolution of skiwear in the world stage.
In 1920s, wool skirts paired with knitted stockings and a hip-length sweater were popular. Dark colored skirts were favored as they found a striking contrast against the snow. As an aristocratic sport, the material wool is slightly bulky and not suitable for skiing. After the first winter Olympics in 1924, manufacturers began to make specialized skiwear, which became popular in the following years.
1930s, women began to wear “Norwegian” trousers which were baggy and cinched at the ankle and more practical than skirts. Short, tailored ski coats inspired by pilots’ uniforms were particularly fashionable. A coordinating set of winter accessories such as scarf completed the look.
