In the 1940s, development in ski lift technology led to more active downhill skiing, which required a more streamlined style. Trousers became slimmer and looser tops allowed for more movements. Hoods and detachable head coverings were stylish and kept the wearer warmer.
In the 1950s, plaid flannel parkas were in style. Stretch nylon pants had slim legs and could be worn as regular slacks aperies ski.
In the 1960s, the invention of spandex 1959 made even stretcher pants that hugged the body. Parkas featured bold, psychedelic prints. Mod ski goggles mimicked the Space Age fashions of the time.
In the 1970s, bright, quilted jumpsuits were worn with turtlenecks, often in coordinating colors. Knit hats were pulled down low to cover the ears. Ribbed thermal bodysuits were worn underneath to help retain body heat.
